In 2006, my Mum - Diane McKay - was diagnosed with small-cell lung cancer at 56 years old. She was given 3 months to live without treatment. She fought hard to stay, enduring 45 chemo treatments and then cranial radiation. We were with her at home when she passed at age 58. It was (and remains) a hard-to-conceive void in our lives. Living through this experience opened my eyes to what lung cancer patients and their families face. That’s why Lung Cancer Canada exists, and that’s why I first became involved over 10 years ago. I’m committed to helping this organization increase its profile to be able to reach more people.
