I was 47, fit and healthy. A wife and mom of two amazing kids aged 8 and 15 at the time, and a practising lawyer. I was completely blindsided to have my “annoying” cough diagnosed as lung cancer. I came to learn that while lung cancer rates are declining generally, lung cancer among young, never smokers is on the rise, and that two times as many women die of lung cancer than breast cancer and have since the 1980s. Worse, even though lung cancer is the number one cancer killer, lung cancer research and services are grossly and inequitably underfunded.
I was, and remain, determined to use my advocacy skills to join Lung Cancer Canada in its fight for support, research and equitable funding for all those who are touched by lung cancer.
